An incredible season for the Tapaires

The competitive Richfield Tapaires Dance Team is a winter sport through Richfield High School, open to student athletes in grades 7-12, with 21 dancers on the current 2019-20 team – the largest team in the past seven years! The dancers compete in the styles of jazz and high kick at both the junior varsity and varsity level.

This season, the Tapaires had four teams: JV Jazz, JV Kick, Varsity Jazz and Varsity Kick. The athletes on these teams have worked hard all season and their dedication and passion for the sport have paid off! This year, the team has claimed its highest scores in seven years!

The Tapaires competed eight times this season – three conference meets and five invitationals, and placed in the top honors at six out of the eight competitions. Earlier this winter season, they earned their first Tri Metro Conference Overall Champs title by placing first for both Jazz and Kick at two consecutive conference meets! The last meet of the season was held at G.F.W. Middle School where all four teams placed in the top honors against tough competition.

In addition to the great dance moments, these athletes had some “non-dance” fun along the way. From traditions like a team dinner before meets and early morning bus rides for competitions to surprise teambuilding activities, the Tapaires had a memorable season.

Tryouts for the 2020-21 competitive Richfield Tapaires Dance Team will occur in the late spring, and we cannot wait to continue the Tapaires legacy and build the team! The team is open to all student athletes in grades 7-12. Please follow us on Instagram (@richfieldtapairesdance) or on Facebook for more information.

2019-20 team captains are Nicole Daggett (senior), Jessica Houle (senior), Maya Hartman (sophomore) and Holland Juell (sophomore).
