Central Education Center awarded school safety grant
Oct. 1, 2018 - Richfield Public Schools received a school safety grant of $182,000 from the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE). The funds will be used to enhance safety systems at the Central Education Center, 7145 Harriet Ave. S., which houses early childhood learning and screening programs in addition to community education and adult enrichment programming. The grant will be used to upgrade door hardware, alarms systems, and external communication systems.
Ninety Minnesota public schools districts or charter schools were awarded school safety grants to be used for security and violence prevention improvements at 123 building sites across the state. MDE received a total of 1,187 completed applications, requesting a total of $255.5 million - more than 10 times the funding available. Governor Dayton and the 2018 Legislature passed school safety grants last spring.
