Richfield Middle School Dual Language Immersion

  • Sr. Figueroa's Class

    Program Characteristics

    • DLI students take two classes daily taught exclusively in Spanish. They are Social Studies and Spanish Language Arts. Students have five classes daily in English.
    • DLI Social Studies meets all the state standards and mirrors the RMS Social Studies requirements. All 6th graders study MN History, all 7th graders study U.S. History and all 8th graders study World Geography.
    • DLI Language Arts pushes students to analyze a variety of genres of text through close reading, discussions and higher-level writing prompts. A strong focus is placed on the production of Spanish both in speaking and writing to maintain skills gained at RDLS and propel students forward. DLI Language Arts is aligned with the ACTFL standards (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages.)
    • DLI fosters a strong and safe learning community where students feel comfortable using their Spanish skills in discussions daily. Students display heightened critical thinking skills, inspiring resourcefulness, and an invigorating excitement for learning.
    • DLI students have access to all other programs and activities available at RMS, like Gifted & Talented, Art, Band, Music, Phy. Ed, Technology, etc.
