Richfield Middle School Named a Bronze Winner in Minnesota’s Best 2026

We are proud to share that Richfield Middle School has been named a Bronze winner for Best Middle School in the 2026 Minnesota’s Best competition, presented by the Star Tribune.

Minnesota’s Best, an annual competition, recognizes outstanding organizations and services across the state through public nominations and voting. Richfield Middle School’s Bronze finish places it among the top three middle schools recognized in Minnesota and highlights the strength of the school’s academic programming, student support and school community.

This recognition is something to celebrate, and it also reflects the ongoing work of staff and students to strengthen learning and continue improving outcomes for all students.

At Richfield Middle School, the work of helping students grow is grounded in the belief that it is a place where every student belongs. That sense of belonging goes hand in hand with a strong commitment to academics. From the classroom to student support systems, RMS is focused on helping every student build the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to succeed.

“We are deeply committed to helping every student grow through strong academics, meaningful relationships and a school culture where students feel they belong,” said Dr. Steven Unowsky, superintendent of Richfield Public Schools. “This recognition is a reflection of the outstanding work happening every day at RMS and the dedication of the staff, students and families who make that success possible.”

Richfield Middle School Principal Erica Barlow said the recognition belongs to the entire school community.

“At RMS, we are focused on creating a school experience where every student is known, supported and pushed to achieve at high levels,” Barlow said. “We are proud of the strong academic opportunities we offer our students, and we are honored to see that work recognized on a statewide level.”

The award also connects closely to Richfield Public Schools’ direction for the future. Strong academics are a key focus for the 2026-27 school year and throughout the district’s upcoming strategic plan, making this recognition an exciting affirmation of the work already happening inside Richfield Middle School classrooms every day.

Thank you to everyone who nominated and voted for Richfield Middle School in this year’s Minnesota’s Best competition. We are proud to celebrate this recognition and even more proud of the students, staff and families who make RMS such a special place to learn, grow and belong.
