PTOs Build Stronger School Communities
PTOs Build Stronger School Communities
At Richfield Public Schools, we recognize that the involvement of parents and families is crucial to the success and well-being of our students. One of the many ways parents can engage with our schools is through the Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) or Parent Advisory Group (PAG). These groups play a key role in supporting our schools, fostering community connections and helping to shape the overall educational experience.
What is the PTO/PAG?
The PTO (or PAG) is a volunteer group made up of school staff and parents/caregivers. Participants work together to support the school through fundraising, event planning and fostering positive relationships between families and school staff. The PTO/PAG helps bridge the gap between home and school, ensuring that families have a voice in their children’s education.
In our District, each school’s PTO/PAG group operates with a unique focus based on the school’s unique needs or priorities. Elementary school PTOs often concentrate on fundraising and organizing family events, while secondary-level PAGs may take on broader advisory roles, providing input on policies, school climate and improvement plans.
School-Specific PTO and PAG Focus Areas
-
Centennial Elementary PTO: The Centennial PTO works to support classrooms and schoolwide initiatives by organizing fundraisers, volunteering at events and providing resources for teachers and staff. They play an essential role in helping the school meet its educational goals. Meet the Centennial PTO!
- Richfield Dual Language School (RDLS) PTSO: The RDLS Parent-Teacher-Student Organization (PTSO) aims to foster communication and collaboration between parents, teachers, and the surrounding community. They support fundraising efforts and coordinate events that benefit the school, while also ensuring that the school’s charitable and educational goals are met. Meet the RDLS PTSO!
- Sheridan Hills Elementary PTO: At Sheridan Hills, the PTO is focused on fundraising for special events and community-building activities. They organize popular events like movie nights, craft nights and the Family Fun Fair to create a strong sense of community among families and staff. Meet the Sheridan Hills PTO!
- Richfield STEM Elementary PTO: The R-STEM PTO supports teachers, staff, and students by fostering a strong school community and providing valuable resources. Among other events, they host a Fun Run each fall, bringing families together for a joyful event while raising funds to enhance the school experience. Learn more on the PTO’s Facebook page.
- Richfield Middle School (RMS) PAG: From hosting events like Winterfest and the fall and spring book fairs to providing meals and treats during conferences, the RMS PAG shows its appreciation for teachers, students and families. They also fill critical gaps by supplying emergency clothing, books, and other resources that the school might otherwise lack. Together, the PAG works to strengthen relationships and ensure that RMS continues to thrive. Meet the RMS PAG!
- Richfield High School (RHS): Our high school students are supported by more than 20 booster clubs that work directly with each sport, club or student group. They support fundraising, event planning and communication (among other tasks). There is also an annual group that helps to fundraise for (and plan) the senior class party. Their goal is to provide a safe and celebratory space for graduating seniors to mark the end of their high school journey and acknowledge their achievements before moving on to the next chapter of their lives.
The Impact of PTO/PAG Participation
When parents and caregivers get involved with their school’s PTO/PAG, it creates a ripple effect that benefits the entire community. The funds raised often enrich student experiences through extracurricular activities, classroom resources and special events. These organizations also foster a sense of community and partnership, helping to create a positive, welcoming school culture.

Parents and caregivers can contribute by joining their school’s PTO/PAG. Whether attending meetings, volunteering or offering feedback on school policies, your involvement makes a significant impact.
