Senior Stories: Riley Herling

During her time at Richfield High School, Riley is proud of how independent she has become. “As I got older and began to grow as a person, I realized how important it is to make sure you are taking care of yourself and knowing how important it is to take care of your mental health.” 

Riley enjoys hanging out with her friends and staying busy. She is involved in the National Honor Society and would describe herself as energetic, outgoing and adventurous. 

She also played volleyball and softball with RHS. “My grandpa Bill is definitely my number one supporter in everything. He always comes to support me at my games no matter what the weather looks like. He loves anything and everything that involves Richfield sports; I would say that is a big reason why I play sports in high school.”

Riley comes from a family of Richfield graduates, including her brother and both parents. “They all had great experiences here and loved it.” Her favorite thing about RHS is the wide range of opportunities, as well as the diversity at the school. 

Her infectious energy is apparent to those around her. Her teacher Laurie Seibert had this to say: “Riley exudes such happiness and cheer, and can light up my day in an instant. Her ability to connect with others and make them feel valued is much appreciated!”

Advice for freshmen? “Do your work, don't let it pile up. Do not take anything for granted, you are so lucky to hopefully get that normal four-year high school experience,” she said.

Riley is looking forward to attending Iowa State University this fall and earning a degree that will allow her to work in her dream career, child protection services.
