Public Comment

Members of the Richfield Public School District Board of Education make decisions centered on what is best for students and incorporates student input throughout the process—from listening sessions with students to the inclusion of student board representatives. They also value input from families, staff and the Richfield community, inviting people to make public comments at one board meeting each month.

If you would like to make a public comment, please complete this online form by noon on the day of the board meeting. You can also request public comment by contacting Board Secretary Cassandra Quam at 612-798-6012 or Cassandra.Quam@rpsmn.org.

• If multiple people plan to address the board on the same subject, they may be asked to select a representative to speak for the group. 
• Personal attacks and disruption of the board meeting are not acceptable. Any individual who persists in these behaviors after being warned may be asked to leave the premises.
• Speakers will be called in order as follows:  students, speakers on a specific agenda item, then others in order of sign up, with preference given to those who have not spoken in the past six months.  
• Please note that the role of the school board is to set the vision and goals for the District, monitor progress and ensure accountability. The school board does not make day-to-day operational decisions for any of the individual schools or departments in the District. 

By appearing in person to share a public comment with the school board, you agree to the following procedures and requirements outlined in Policy 216: Public Comment and Administrative Guideline 216.1.

• Your time allotted is three minutes, with time extended up to three additional minutes if translation is needed. (The board secretary will indicate with both “30 seconds” and “time is up” warnings.)

• Speakers are asked to refrain from using this forum to criticize, complain, or make allegations about a specific employee by name due to privacy and legal concerns for the employee and the speaker.

• The School Board takes into consideration comments made during public comment, but is not holding a two-way dialogue or interactive discussion during public comments. Public Comment is designed for us to listen now and, if needed, provide a district response at a later time.

• Questions, concerns and requests may be directed to the appropriate administrator for review. Speakers who desire a written response to a specific question may request it.

• If a speaker violates a procedure or rule, they will be given a warning. If they persist in violating any procedure or rule, the speaker will be directed to leave the premises and not to return, a no trespass order may be issued, and a referral may be made to law enforcement.
