POLICY  RELATING  TO  EQUALITY  OF  EDUCATIONAL  OPPORTUNITY

The Board of Education supports the continued creation of learning environments which contribute to the self-esteem of all persons and to positive inter-personal relationships.  The Board encourages all school personnel to continue their endeavors to fully recognize all people from various racial and ethnic groups with primary emphasis on the dignity of each person.  The Board requests that training programs be considered which will increase the communications and relationship skills for all personnel.  ("All Personnel" includes administrators, teachers and non-certified staff who have contact with students.)

To assist the Board in the formulation of a human relations program to meet the needs of all students, the Board has established the Richfield School District Curriculum Advisory Council.  This advisory council shall be charged with: studying, making recommendations, and advising the Board on matters pertaining to equality of educational opportunity, multi-cultural, gender fair, disability sensitive curriculum, and a training program to equip staff to deliver the program.

The requests that the Curriculum Advisory Council encourage membership and seek input from persons of color and those with disabilities in formulating its curriculum and staff development recommendations.
